As one of Troon’s hotels of long standing repute, and set in lovely landscaped grounds, Piersland House has been at the forefront of providing hospitality and hotel accommodation to Troon and Ayrshire residents and visitors alike for nearly 50 years. Now Piersland House Hotel, the original Piersland Lodge was built as a private residence in 1899 by the renowned Scottish architect William Leiper, and the home for Sir Alexander Walker, grandson of Johnnie Walker, founder of the internationaly famous Scotch whisky firm, Johnnie Walker. Sir Alexander was Managing Director of Johnnie Walker Whisky and created Johnnie Walker Red and Black labels.
This fine example of hotel accommodation in Troon, Ayrshire, Piersland House Hotel is a Grade A building. All the original features of the Lodge have been retained as it was built in 1899 by William Leiper.
These include elaborate wood carvings, leaded window panes, grand stone fireplaces, extensive wood panelling and a Jacobean embroidery frieze worked by the Tapestriere to King George V. The hotel has been sympathetically refurbished over the years in keeping with the building’s grace and quality with heavy window drapes, fine wallpapers and fabrics.
And, keeping to the whisky theme, each bedroom is based on a malt whisky distillery or family. All bedrooms have been fully updated while ensuring their original charm remains. Each room has full facilities and a room service menu is available.
Enjoy a magnificent oak panelled restaurant that is one of Troon’s best. This is wonderful room that appeals to resident diners and locals alike and in June 2006 has undegone a fabulous redesign. It is an ideal venue for special occasions and celebrations as well as intimate dinners for two.
Head Chef John Rae, crafts an interesting mix of dishes, with some traditional Scottish fayre that has stood the test of time as well as appealing provincial French dishes using the best local Ayrshire produce as well as some speciality imports. The hotel is located opposite the famous Royal Troon Championship Links Golf Course, world renowned location of the British Open Golf Championship. It remained a family home until its conversion into a hotel in 1956 but it still retains the original country house character.
The hotel’s terrace is wonderful for alfresco eating during the summer and the hotel is also a fine hotel wedding venue for Troon and Ayrshire.
